Holy Week Begins . . .

Holy Week gives us the opportunity to re-live the passion of Jesus. We can never understand how much He loves us, but we are called to understand and think about the suffering He endured for us here on Earth. Happy Palm Sunday!

Going on a Silent Retreat . . .

The Simple Path

I am so excited (and a bit nervous) to be going on my first silent weekend retreat that starts tonight! I’ve always found an excuse why I couldn’t go, but not this time.

Our lives are filled with so much noise and distraction, it will be nice to “Be still and know that He is God.” I have about a thousand things to do before I leave tonight, and God-willing nothing will keep me from going this time! (Even though I almost crashed into a deer last night!) I will be praying for all of you. Thank you for being a part of this page!

In Christ,
Liz

Prayer to Saint Anne

Saint Anne

Prayer to St. Anne:
St. Anne, pray for God to bless my family. My family is the heart of my life. It is my little Church. St. Anne, guard the members of my family against all physical and spiritual danger. You lived in the presence of your husband, St. Joachim, and your little daughter, Mary. Later, you welcomed your son-in-law, St. Joseph, and above all your beloved Grandson, Jesus, our Savior. May your family inspire all of our families. May we remain united in a deep mutual love forever. If my family is broken by separation or divorce, remain for us the Saint of tenderness and unity, which leads all souls to God. St. Anne, you were a spouse, a mother, and a grandmother; bless all the members of my family. Keep us faithful to the Lord and to each other. May we also remain attentive to the needs of other families. Good St. Anne, protect all families. Amen.

Thank you for your prayers and support

Dear” Love Being Catholic” Friends,

I have loved writing and maintaining this online ministry over the last 3.5 years! I have learned so much from all of you through your comments and messages on my posts and truly appreciate each one of you. Thank you so much for being a part of this page, and for all of your many prayers over the years.

My mission is to help you grow deeper in your love for Christ, His Church, and our Blessed Mother, while at the same time give you some easy-to-understand answers to questions you might have been asked by others about our faith. Through the grace of God, this blog and Facebook page now have over 78,000 friends and are reaching several million people around the world each month.

It takes hundreds of hours to research, write and maintain this site, which I love doing, but at the same time it has become a bit of a financial strain. (I am a one-mom operation) Any support is appreciated as it would allow me to continue running Love Being Catholic like I have been for the last several years.

If you’re enjoying this blog, or my Love Being Catholic Facebook page, and it has been a blessing to you, please consider supporting it with even a modest donation of $5.00-$10.00 – every little bit helps.

If you have donated already, I thank you wholeheartedly for making all of this possible. If you find any joy and value in Love Being Catholic, please consider supporting me in my efforts. Please also keep me and this ministry in your prayers – you are all in my prayers as well!

We go for Him.

calm

Even if you’re tired and don’t feel like going to Mass, just go. It will do your soul some good. God is waiting for you, and loves you immensely. Just get up and go. And if the music isn’t great, or the homily isn’t as exciting as you were hoping, don’t complain. Offer it all up, pray for your priests and our Church, and thank God for the many blessings in your life. Remember, we go to worship God. We go for Him

Morning Prayer

In the name of our Lord Jesus Christ I will begin this day.

I thank you, Lord, for having preserved me during the night. I will do my best to make all I do today pleasing to You and in accordance with Your will. My dear mother Mary, watch over me this day. My Guardian Angel, take care of me. St. Joseph and all you saints of God, pray for me.

O Jesus, through the Immaculate Heart of Mary, I offer You my prayers, works, joys and sufferings of this day for all the intentions of Your Sacred Heart, in union with the Holy Sacrifice of the Mass throughout the world, in reparation for my sins, for the intentions of all my relatives and friends, and in particular for the intentions of the Holy Father. Amen.

Jesus I trust in You

Remember it’s Friday – no Meat today!

No meat

Remember – it’s Friday! No Meat Today!

Fridays during Lent are obligatory days of abstinence. Abstinence refers to the avoidance of certain foods. The most common form of abstinence is the avoidance of meat, a spiritual practice that goes back to the earliest days of the Church.

Catholics over the age of 14 are required to abstain from meat and from foods made with meat in honor of the Passion of Jesus on Good Friday.

According to the USCCB, “abstinence laws consider that meat comes only from animals such as chicken, cows, sheep or pigs – all of which live on land. Birds are also considered meat. Abstinence does not include meat juices and liquid foods made from meat. Thus, such foods as chicken broth, consomme, soups cooked or flavored with meat, meat gravies or sauces, as well as seasonings or condiments made from animal fat are technically not forbidden. However, moral theologians have traditionally taught that we should abstain from all animal-derived products (except foods such as gelatin, butter, cheese and eggs, which do not have any meat taste). Fish are a different category of animal. Salt and freshwater specaes of fish, amphibians, reptiles (cold-blooded animals) and shellfish are permitted.”

Many Catholics do not realize that the Church still recommends abstinence on all Fridays of the year, not just during Lent. In fact, if we don’t abstain from meat on non-Lenten Fridays, we’re required to substitute some other form of penance.

Wishing you all a very holy and joyful Lent!
